De gangene jeg har gjort forsøk med Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu på ppc-maskiner fra Apple¹, har jeg slitt med at bare 2/3 av skjermen brukes; den høyre tredelen er svart, den nedre tredelen av skjermen looper toppen. 12″ er fra før av ikke alt for stort, så det er selvfølgelig irriterende. Med litt søking og hjelp fra flere foraer, har jeg kommet frem til at følgende prosedyre funker²:

åpne applications->tilbehør->terminal
skriv
```
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
```
skriv
```
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
```

kopier det følgende, som jeg fant på ubuntuforums, med ctrl³ -c

Så er min erfaring at plassutnyttelsen blir langt mer effektiv. Og det er jo greit!

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala på iBook G3

For omtrent ett år siden gjorde jeg ett forsøk. Affeksjonsverdien var for stor til at den kunne avhendes, men den gamle hvite iBooken samlet stort sett støv. I løpet av noen hektiske sommeruker kom jeg meg igjennom diverse installasjonsprosesser; ikke alle like enkle for en datanovise, men definitivt innenfor den proksimale læringssonen. I fjor var det Ubuntu versjon 6.06 Dapper Drake og 8.04 Hardy Heron (?) som var ‘it’. Etter at installasjonen var oppe og gikk, og venner meldte behov for en lånelaptop, gjeninnsatte jeg OS X i iBookens indre, og tenkte ikke så mye mere på det. Før @forteller her i forrige uke meldte om at Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala stod på dørstokken.
Karmic Koala er nå oppe og står, og iBooken, selv om den fint fungerte under OS X 10.4.11, har kanskje fått ett litt lengre liv. Den har ihvertfall gjort seg fortjent til min oppmerksomhet på ny.
